Grief Support Groups
The Rainbow Center for Children and Adolescent's provides several support groups over the course of the year. We currently hold groups for 5-8 year olds, 9-12 year olds, and adolescents ages 13 and older. Our support groups provide participants the opportunity to identify their feelings, express those feelings appropriately and work on coping and communication skills. Through participating in a grief support group with peers, children and adolescents also learn that they are not alone in facing the death of a parent or significant family member.
Much of the children and adolescents' work in our grief support group focuses on expressing grief and healing through visual arts. We have included on this web page a sampling of activities which children and adolescents may experience in our grief support groups.

Art Therapy Groups
Art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process is a healing and life affirming path. This form of treatment, although different from conventional psychotherapy, is especially helpful in working with children. Children and even young adults often lack the words to express themselves adequately. Many children naturally take to art as a form of expressing feelings and emotions. Often a creative medium can act as a conduit for these emotions, buried deep within the subconscious, which can surface and be reflected in a comfortable, personal environment. Once these feelings are unleashed, the healing process can begin to take place.
